Broken Wing
General Guidelines
Broken WingAt Broken Wing we have enjoyed many seasons full of great hunting experiences as a team and with our clients. Every hunter has his own way to evaluate and what is important to him or her in each hunt. As an Outfitter, Guide, and Hunter each time I leave the field after a hunt and no one was injured, it was a great hunt. These guidelines are with respect to everyone in any field and their families.
  • During inclement weather please let us know if you have difficulty and do not risk it if really looks dangerous, there will be another day to hunt.

  • Please check to make sure your firearm is in perfect working order before the hunt, working on guns in the field can lead to accidents.

  • Your firearm may hold a maximum of 3 shells of any size. Please check to make sure you have your plug in place if required before entering the field.

  • Be aware of all hunters and retriever’s position in the field at all times, we will do the same for you.

  • Never fire your gun in the field unless instructed to do so.

  • Your guide is the team leader, please respect this at all times.

  • Observe safe shooting lanes. Straight in front, straight up or straight behind you are safe shooting lanes.

  • Please do not shoot birds on the ground unless instructed to do so.

  • Please be patient, your guide will call the shot at the optimal time.

  • There may be many flocks in the area at the same time, after shooting into a flock, put your safety back on, reload your firearm and be ready for the next flock.

  • Downed birds will be retrieved when the field is clear, please stay in the blind/pit.

  • Wear hearing protection.

  • Practice coming out of your shooting station and taking a bead on a bird a couple times so you are comfortable with the set up.

  • If you are unsure on the operation of a propane heater your guide will gladly operate it for you. If your heater appears to have a problem exit the pit immediately and your guide will address the issue.

  • Your hunting license must be with you in the field, not in the truck.

  • Should a Conservation Officer/Game Warden approach the hunt follow his/her instructions explicitly, they are now in complete control of the field. If we respect them they will respect us.

  • Please check your gear so there is no lead shot of any kind entering the field.

  • Within 45 days of purchasing your Federal Waterfowl stamp it must be attached to your license and signed across the face of the stamp. Not required with the State Waterfowl stamp.

  • Anyone threatening the safety of other hunters may be asked to case their gun or politely asked to leave the field without a refund.
